Making Money While in College

One of the biggest obstacles that many college students face is making money while taking classes. It is always nice to have a little extra cash for your own personal spending. Here are some ideas on how to get started with finding jobs:

1. NoleNetwork

NoleNetwork is an amazing resource to turn to, for those of you who do not know! Once you get to the website and log in using your FSU student ID, there is an option to the left which allows you to look for jobs & internships. Once you click on that, you press search and that is how you get started! From there you can narrow down what you’re looking for. You can look for a part-time job, full-time job, internship, seasonal job, etc.… You can also look for specific job functions to narrow down your search. By using the “extra filters” drop-down, there are more options to help narrow it down to exactly what you are looking for! You can choose whether you want it to be remote or whether you need a flexible start/end date. It truly is an amazing resource offered by FSU!

2. The Career Center

The Career Center is also another valuable office or website to turn to when looking for a part-time job. They also have different tabs tailored toward finding internships and Federal Work Studies positions. Once you head over to the career center website → Students→ Gain Experience, there is a drop down titled “Landing a Part-Time Job.” The options offered here are pretty much the same as the ones on NoleNetwork as you still have to apply from there, but this is another great way to look for opportunities!

3. LinkedIn

Never underestimate the power of social media! LinkedIn is an awesome website/app to help you find job opportunities. It’s free to sign up! Once you create a unique profile, it is super easy to look for job opportunities around you. Just head on over to the search bar and you can search by title/skill/company. Also, connect with as many people you know as possible. Building your network is a great way to connect you with new professional job opportunities.

4. Some other websites to look at (remote jobs)

1. Remote.co

2. VirtualVocations

3. WeWork Remotely

However, while there are several opportunities, be aware that there are a high number of scam jobs and insincere opportunities (especially when it comes to remote jobs). Unfortunately, college students are a target population. Make yourself aware of the signs of fraudulent jobs here.

Although this is not an extensive list, I hope this gives you an idea of how to get started! Be safe and good luck!
