Meeting with Ashley from Turning Point Talks

Meeting February 9, 2022

In our last meeting, we collaborated with WISE FSU to have guest speaker Ashley from Turning Point Talks. Turning Point Talks is a motivational company that highlights challenging yourself to find your passion in life and to pursue it.

Background

Ashley began our meeting with talking about her background and why she created Turning Point Talks. She started her career with doing medical sales, working over 50 hours a week. She quickly learned to hate corporate jobs, and although everything was perfect on the outside (making lots of money and being financially stable), she felt incomplete. She then quit her job to start teaching SPIN classes after discovering a passion in learning and talking to people.

Turning Point Talks

A turning point is a moment that makes you reflect back onto something. Ashley had this turning point with her career, and it made her realize that she was unhappy and wanted to pursue something different. If you're unhappy with your life, here are some perspectives Ashley provided:

1) Dumb it down, what's the worst that can happen if you decide to change your course? Is it really as complicated as you're making it?

2) Faith > Fear. Believe in yourself!

3) Look for a passion that will keep you going even when the world is against you. When COVID-19 hit, Ashley had to fight to keep her business alive. If she didn't have the passion, her business would have become bankrupt since it was nonessential.

4) Don't compare yourself to others, find your passion within yourself. Many times, especially when you're young, you tend to compare your achievements to others. DON'T! Everyone works at their own pace and finds their passions at different times.

5) The truth hurts, but it heals.

6) Easier to quit, but don't.

"You strength is your struggle"

Thank you to Ashley from Turning Point Talks for coming out to talk about her journey in finding her passion. All of our members learned a lot in finding ourselves. Also, thank you to WISE for setting this meeting up with us!
